Erin Kirkland is a freelance writer and blogger from Anchorage, Alaska, where she shares her love of travel and adventure with husband James and two sons, ages 16 and 5. Erin is a regular contributor to Coast Magazine, and is the author of AK on the GO, a Web site dedicated to family-friendly activities
and travel tips for visitors to Alaska. Erin also writes a
personal blog, Elituq-She is Learning (www.elituqakbrady.blogspot.com), offering perspective on life in the land of the Midnight sun (and Sarah Palin).

In her quest for the perfect Alaskan story, Erin has been chased by moose, kissed an Iditarod sled dog, and experienced Eskimo Ice Cream (which she does not particularly recommend). The Far North treats her well despite long dark winters and long light summers that wreak havoc on bedtime routines and subsequent writing schedules. She has been a member of The Power MOB since September 2008.

Michelle Ghilotti Mandel, designer and owner of ghilotti ink prides herself on thinking out of the box and having a genuine joy for the work she does. An ad girl previous to starting her own thing seven years ago, Michelle uses her travels as inspiration for both invitation and business design projects for small to corporate clients. A challenge she craves? When a client comes to ghilotti ink in need of a logo that at first-glance tells the brands story (and business purpose) in a simply sophisticated way. "Yum, bring it on!" she says.

Marne Maykowskyj Nordean

Marne.jpg

Marne Maykowskyj’s life started out in the small port town of Valdez in our 49th state. Her studies took her to Washington, where architecture took over her life and she plunged headfirst into the design discipline.  Marne graduated with her future husband, Marc Nordean, a fellow architect who shared her love of design and architecture. Once her first child Henry came along in 2002, Marne’s life took a different direction. She quit her job and with money scarce, she began to sew her own baby blankets, clothes and other baby sundries. She sold them to friends and friends of friends as O’Henry.  A few years later, Maggie Mae was born and Marne knew the time was right to get serious and put her energy into a home-based business that served her new passion: kids clothing and accessories. Together with two Portland moms, she founded Cat in an Apron, a kids apparel and accessories site named after a poetic line lifted from her favorite childhood production Free to Be You and Me. Today, Marne operates the business as a sole proprietor and showcases the apparel and accessories made by designers in the Pacific NW, many of them moms like herself. Marne had her third child, baby Oliver in September of this 2008 and is trying to figure out how to manage THREE children and a business!  Coffee anyone??
